Foundation of the general partnership Bochumer Machinenfabrik Schneider und Diefenbach. Business site: Bochum, Rottstraße. Production range: Production of and trade with screws, minor repairs.

 

1920

 

Mr. Diefenbach withdraws from the partnership. The business name is changed to Bochumer Maschinenfabrik Arthur Schneider. Continuation of the production range, now including the repair of steam engines and other brewery equipment.

Production transferred to the privately owned site at Hunscheidtstraße / Friederikastraße

1924

 

Mr. Brune joins the business.
The business name is changed to Buchumer Maschinenfabrik Schneider und Brune.
Continuation of the production range, now including the production of drift mining equipment, drilling hammer supports, raise pillars, stone dust nozzles, stowing machines;
later on, the field of repairs is extended to the overhaul and maintenance of valves and fittings, including a general transaction for the Vereinigte Stahlwerke group.

 

1935

 

Mr. Brune dies. The business name as well as the corporate structure are again changed to as they were in 1920.

Continuation of the extended production range, now also including the manufacture of classifiers as well as of oil dosimeters.

The repair methods are improved by armouring the valve seats with highly wear resistant material.

Production of glandless acidproof pumps (special design), acidproof valves and spare parts for pumps made of acidproof special steel under direct and indirect licence.

Repair of special high-pressure valves in power stations, hydrogenation plants and chemical industries.

1939-1945

 

World War II.
The factory is almost completely destroyed.

 

Autumn 1945

 

Postwar rehabilitation of production in provisionally equipped workshops. In principal, repair and maintenance of valves and fittings as well as production of pump spare parts.

 

1945-1950

 

 

 

 

Construction of new workshop halls and new business premises under Mr. Friedrich Appelberg.

Mr Friedrich Appelberg joins the business. The business name is kept. However, the corporate structure is turned into a general partnership.

 

1950

 

Foundation of the Bochumer Maschinen - Vertriebsgesellschaft Arthur Schneider m. b. H., being an independent sales organization.

 

1951

 

Foundation of the Unterstützungsverein e. V. (benevolent society) representing an additional retirement pension scheme for the employees.

 

1952

 

Finalization of reconstruction and rebuilding as well as of capacity extension through new production machines and equipment.

 

31.12.1952

 

Keeping the business name, the corporate structure is turned into a limited partnership.

Production of new valves started - e.g. safety valves, quick-action stop valves, multiple-way valves, single-seated control valves, diaphragm-and sleeve packing valves, DBP, gate valves, special gas slide valves.

 

09.01.1953

 

Mr Arthur Schneider turns 65.

 

1956

 

Production of unchokable control valves for boiler feeding in high-pressure power plants.

Development of the transformer as a reducing station for pressure and temperature control DBP by Mr. Friedrich Appelberg.

Later on, extension of this program, now including desuperheaters, return valves, reducing stars and -sections, overpressure protections and other specially designed valves and equipment for the utility industry; development of the transformer with safety device.

1959

 

BOMAFA celebrates its 40th anniversary.

 

1960

 

The construction of a new factory in Wattenscheid is started.

 

09.01.1963

 

Mr. Arthur Schneider turns 75.

Workshop and administration move to the new premises in Wattenscheid

After a long illness, Mr. Arthur Schneider dies.

Mrs. Emilie Appelberg, daughter of Mr. Schneider, joins the business as special limited partner.

Mr. Friedrich Appelberg turns 60.

 

15.06.1967

 

Unexpectedly, Mr Friedrich Appelberg dies from a heart attack.

Mrs Appelberg takes over the business management. Mr Arthur Appelberg
and Mr Ferdinand Appelberg join the business as associates.

BOMAFA celebrates its 50th anniversary.

 

1975

 

On the decisive initiative of the associate Mr. Ferdinand Appelberg, new valve types for nuclear power stations are sold and marketed. Initial orders in this business line were placed by the experimental atomic power station K.ahl and by the nuclear power station Gundremmingen.

 

1984

 

A volume order in the business line of nuclear power stations of the KONVOI-Series is placed by the following plants:

Nuclear power station: KKI 2, KKE and GKN 2.

Mrs. Emilie Appelberg-Wingelfeld withdraws from the company.
Mr. Ferdinand Appelberg takes over her shares and becomes business
manager.
Mr. Arthur Appelberg stays in the company as an associate.

Mr. Ferdinand Appelberg takes over his shares and becomes exclusive owner and business manager of the company.
